This guide will cover setting up your NZXT SwitchMix in Windows. If you have not already connected your SwitchMix to your PC, please check out the following guide before moving forward:
NZXT Support - Connecting the NZXT SwitchMix
Once your SwitchMix is properly connected to your PC, you will need to configure a few things in Windows before it will be fully ready to go.
To start, right-click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner of your screen and choose Sound Settings.
If your SwitchMix is properly connected, you should see two devices listed under Output:
- NZXT SWITCHMIX GAME
- NZXT SWITCHMIX VOICE
We will start with the NZXT SWITCHMIX GAME settings, so go ahead and click the arrow to the right of this device to open its Properties tab.
With the Properties for the NZXT SWITCHMIX GAME open, locate the Set as default sound device option and select Is default for audio from the dropdown, then click the arrow in the top left corner to return to the Sound Settings.
Once back in the Sound Settings, click the arrow next to NZXT SWITCHMIX VOICE to open its Properties tab.
With the Properties for the NZXT SWITCHMIX VOICE open, locate the same Set as default sound device setting as before and choose Is default for communications from the dropdown, then click the arrow in the top left corner to return to the Sound Settings.
From here, your SwitchMix is ready to go for listening, however if you are planning to use a Microphone built into your headset, then you may still need to select the Microphone in the Input section as shown below.
To use the Microphone on a connected headset, click the circle next to NZXT SWITCHMIX VOICE in the input section before closing the Sound Settings. If you are planning to use a dedicated Microphone such as the NZXT Capsule or NZXT Capsule Mini, you can skip this step.
As an extra note, for some programs you may need to manually configure the Microphone and Headphone settings to properly use the SwitchMix. If your program has the option to select Input and Output devices independently, it is recommended to make sure that your audio is specifically set to NZXT SWITCHMIX VOICE for any voice programs.
This can also be incredibly useful for Streaming software such as OBS and X-Split where you can set your Audio Source to NZXT SWITCHMIX GAME and record your system's audio without needing to worry about audio from your voice chat going through.
