Which NZXT Gaming PC is best for me?

One of the biggest questions that may come to mind when deciding to take the leap into PC gaming is one that can be rather broad:  "What PC do I get?".  While many will take the route of learning to build their own PC or pour over articles and forum posts trying to find the perfect combination of parts, there are times when a pre-configured system may be the best place to start.

Why should I go with a pre-built gaming PC?

One question we see from people getting into PC gaming is "Why should I go with a pre-built?", especially when for many it may be more affordable to build it yourself.  Pre-built PCs can be a great value for those who do not yet have the ability or confidence to build a PC, or for those who may simply want to get into the hobby with minimal risk.  In particular, there are three core reasons why you might want to go with a pre-built PC:

  • Ready to go out of the box - Pre-built gaming PCs come ready to go out out of the box with minimal assembly required.  This means less agonizing over what parts are going to be compatible and of course the build itself.
  • Optimized for your needs - Many pre-built gaming PCs will be configured from the start to take the best advantage of the hardware available for your needs.  Just as you wouldn't take a small commuter car to compete in an Formula 1 race, a Gaming oriented pre-built PC is going to be far more appropriate than trying to compete using a basic box tax machine.
  • Warranty Coverage - This point is a big one for many users, as a hardware failure can be outright devastating.  Many pre-built gaming PCs will include a limited warranty covering any issues of defect from parts or labor, with NZXT Gaming PCs featuring a 2-year Limited Warranty covering these issues.

When picking out a PC, there are a few questions you may want to ask yourself:

  • What hardware do I already have?
  • What am I going to use my PC for?
  • What is my overall budget?
  • For gaming, what do I want to play?

These four questions can help easily pinpoint what option is best for you.  Starting with hardware, you'll need the following for a complete gaming setup:

Additionally, there are a few extras that you can use based on your own needs such as a controller, racing wheel, webcam, etc.  These are best factored after taking into consideration the essentials above.

For example, starting with a budget of $1700 for a full setup you may want to set aside $300 to cover some basic essentials ($150-200 for a monitor, $50-100 for a mouse and keyboard, nd $30-50 for for a headset).  Even with some budget oriented parts, this brings our $1700 budget down to around $1400.  Now that we've established a budget, this is where the other questions will come into play as we look through the various pre-built Gaming PC options available through NZXT:

Player: One

The Player: One series are an affordable entry point into PC Gaming, putting a focus on giving you the essential hardware needed to get in and get gaming.  Unlike some other affordable options, all Player: One PCs include a dedicated Graphics Card or GPU to handle driving your display and giving you solid performance in 1080p gaming.

In addition to being a strong entry point, the Player: One is also a great place to learn about PC hardware.  Unlike in console gaming where you need to replace your entire system every few years to keep up with the latest games, all NZXT Gaming PCs are built using off-the-shelf PC components and are easy to upgrade with your own parts.  These upgrades can include everything from adding another SSD for increased storage or swapping out your Graphics Card to something more powerful to keep up with newer games later on down the line.

Overall, the Player: One series are a great entry point for those who are dipping their toes into PC gaming for the first time:

  • Air-cooling focused, requiring minimal maintenance.
  • Designed with 1080p gaming in mind.
  • Room for future expandability and upgrades.
  • Low price to entry.

Going Prime

The Player: One Prime is the next step up for those looking for a little more performance from the start.  The Player: One Prime is an affordable way to get access to higher tier GPU options and other out-of-box upgrades such as more storage, RAM, or even newer case options without making the jump to the Player: Two series.

The Player: One Prime is not only has great performance at 1080p, but also is a solid entry point for light 1440p gaming or even getting your start with some simple streaming.

Player: Two

The Player: Two series are the next step up for those who have either been in PC gaming for a while and want a fresh start with some stronger hardware, or maybe someone who is coming from console and is looking for a little something extra in terms of graphical presentation or performance.  If the Player: One is the base model, the Player: Two is your first step into Pro territory.

The hardware selections with the Player: Two are made with 1440p gaming in mind, featuring almost double the overall number of pixels which are drawn to the screen and allowing the use of higher resolution textures to make your game shine.

If you're playing on a monitor larger than 25", games rendered in 1440p may appear far sharper and cleaner than those played at 1080p.  By comparison, the same game at 1080p on the same size monitor may appear more muddied or blocky when compared side-by-side.

That isn't to say that the Player: Two is exclusively for 1080p gaming though, as the extra graphics power could also be made to help those sticking to 1080p for competitive reasons gain an extra edge by being able to push more frames per second thanks to the improved hardware.

The Player: Two systems also include all-in-one liquid coolers for keeping your CPU nice and cool with minimal noise and may even include extra features such as additional RGB lighting or integrated displays for checking your system performance at a glance.  And don't worry:  all of our all-in-one liquid coolers are closed loop systems which means you do not need to change out or refill the liquid.

With more powerful hardware and cooling options also comes the greatest strength of the Player: Two series:  improved performance for streaming and content creation.  The Player: Two series are designed not only to be great for gaming, but are also capable of handling tasks such as photo and video editing, graphic design, and even livestreaming your gaming sessions without needing a second computer or additional hardware such as a capture card.

The Player: Two is a great choice for those looking for more power out of the box:

  • Liquid-cooled via a closed loop cooling system with minimal maintenance.
  • Designed with 1440p gaming in mind, as well as impressive 1080p performance for competitive gamers.
  • Capable of more than just gaming, with streaming and content creation in mind.
  • Plenty of room for expansion in the future.

Going Prime

The Player: Two Prime is the next step up, unlocking access to stronger hardware for great out-of-the-box performance.  This includes access to more memory, bigger storage, and most importantly higher performance processors and GPUs.  Additionally, some Player: Two Prime configurations may include different case options with more expandability in mind.

If you're looking for a powerful gaming PC or content creation system and aren't ready to take the leap into a Player: Three system, the Player: Two is an excellent choice.

Player: Three

Welcome to the big leagues.  The Player: Three series are not only powerful gaming PCs, but feature some of the best hardware on the market that allow them to excel in gaming, content creation, and many other demanding tasks.  The Player: Three isn't just a gaming PC, this is the centerpiece of your desktop setup and stands as the envy of your peers.

Where the previous configurations put a focus on 1080p and 1440p gaming, the Player: Three series are designed with up to 4K gaming in mind (400% the pixels drawn than 1080p).  This higher graphic fidelity means that in supported games you'll have access to a far more immersive experience, especially with larger format displays.

Additionally, the higher tier GPUs available at the Player: Three level are capable of excellent ray tracing support to take your immersive gaming experience to the next level.

The Player: Three series is not only an excellent contender when it comes to making games, but also for content creation work such as photo and video editing, audio engineering, and even game design.  The Player: Three is an enthusiast grade system ready to go.

Going Prime

The ultimate flex featuring some of the most powerful hardware at our disposal, the Player: Three Prime is for those looking for ultimate performance out of the gate.  More RAM, more storage, stronger processor options, and access to top-of-the-line graphics cards all packaged in some of our most impressive PC cases to date make the Player: Three Prime one of the most impressive gaming PCs you'll ever use short of diving head first into the deepest depths of the enthusiast realm.
