How to Factory Restore your Gaming PC

Depending on the situation, you may find yourself needing to reset your system to the day it arrived at your doorstep.  Whether this be due to an unrecoverable error preventing the system from loading, a corrupted update, or you are simply looking to wipe the slate clean and start with a fresh experience, you may find yourself asking “How do I reinstall Windows?”

If you have an NZXT Gaming PC manufactured starting in August 2022, you may have an easy to use utility ready to go specifically for this need.

If you have an NZXT Gaming PC manufactured before August 2022, please check out our guides on reinstalling either Windows 10 or Windows 11 found here:

Starting the NZXT Recovery Solution (Wimage)

Please note:  The following guide will result in your system being reset to a factory state.  If you have any important files or documents saved to the PC, it is strongly recommended to save them to an external storage drive or cloud service before continuing.

If you are able to load into Windows, to start the recovery process we’ll first need to load the recovery tool.  This can be done by holding Shift on your keyboard while clicking Restart from your PC’s power options.

If you are unable to load into Windows directly due to an error, you may be able to start the PC directly into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) by pressing F8 while the PC is booting at the BIOS splash screen.

Once the NZXT Recovery Solution/Wimage is selected, it may take a moment for the system to load the Recovery Solution.  Once you see the following screen, you will now be ready to restore the system.

Saving your Files in Wimage

If you have any important files on your system, you may need to save these prior to starting the restore process.  To do this, click the Folder icon on the left side of the program to open the File Manager.  With the File Manager opened, you should be able to select a source file on the left and a destination folder on the right to copy any important files over to an external drive.

Starting the Restore Tool

In order to restore your PC, simply click the button located on the right side of the window.  You will receive a warning message letting you know that starting the Restore process will result in all data on the target drive being deleted, so as noted before it is recommended to backup or save any information on your PC before continuing.

Finally, accept the agreement that pops up and the system will start the restore process.  Once the restore process is completed, you will be returned to the WinRE screen where you will select “Continue” to reboot the PC and load into Windows.

Once the restore process finishes and the PC restarts, the system will load into the Account Creation/Out-of-Box Experience as it was when the PC was first delivered.
