As part of the 2-year refresh program, you can use the NZXT Porting Tool to transfer your data from your existing Flex PC to the refreshed one. This guide will show you how.
IMPORTANT: The NZXT Porting Tool is designed to work with NZXT Flex PCs only. Please do not attempt to use it with other PCs
What You'll Need to Get Started:
- The NZXT Porting Tool: This is an external SSD provided by Fragile/NZXT with the porting software.
- Source PC: The original computer being returned.
- Destination PC: The newly received, refreshed computer.
Step 1: Cloning the Old PC (The Source)
- Connect the Porting Tool: Plug the Porting Tool into an available USB-C port on the back of your Source PC.
- Access the Boot Menu: Restart your PC. As it powers on, repeatedly press F11 or F12 (the exact key may vary depending on your PC - check the splash screen to identify which key to press to enter the boot menu)
- Select Ubuntu: Once in the boot menu, navigate to "Ubuntu" and press Enter.
- Launch the Porting Tool: A black screen with text may appear. Press Enter a few times to launch the Porting Tool interface.
- Initiate Cloning: You'll see three options: Clone, Restore, and Delete. For the first use, only "Clone" will be available. Select "Clone" and confirm any prompts that appear.
- Monitor Progress: A progress bar will indicate the cloning process, which typically takes around 30 minutes. Your PC will then either shut down automatically or prompt you to do so.
Step 2: Restoring Data to the refreshed PC (The Destination)
- Connect the Porting Tool: Plug the Porting Tool into the USB-C port on the back of the refreshed PC.
- Access the Boot Menu: Restart your new PC and press F11 or F12 during startup to enter the boot menu.
- Select Ubuntu: From the boot menu, choose "Ubuntu" and press Enter.
- Launch the Porting Tool: After a black screen with text appears, press Enter a few times to launch the Porting Tool.
- Restore Your Data: This time, you'll see "Restore" and "Delete" as available options. Select "Restore" and confirm. A progress bar will appear, and the process should take approximately 30 minutes.
- Shut down PC & Unplug Porting Tool: Once the restoration is complete, you will be prompted to shut down your PC and unplug the porting tool.
- Power on and Log In: After unplugging the Porting Tool, you can now power on the PC and log in using the same credentials you used for the old PC.
Step 3: Installing the Wi-Fi Driver
Given different driver requirements between your source and destination PC, the Wi-Fi driver may not install automatically. Here's how to get connected:
- Plug the porting tool back into the refreshed PC.
- Open File Explorer.
- Locate the Drivers Folder: Navigate to the Porting Tool Drive and find the folder named drivers.
- Launch the Installer: Double-click and run the SDI_x64.exe file located in this folder.
- Install WLAN Driver: From the driver menu, find and install the WLAN (Wi-Fi) driver.
- Connect and Update: Connect to your Wi-Fi network and then run Windows Update to ensure all your drivers are fully current.
Step 4: Clearing Your Data
Once you've confirmed the refreshed PC is fully functional, it's time to clear your data from the Porting Tool and the old PC.
- Delete from Porting Tool: Connect and Relaunch into the Porting Tool (Following the boot menu steps as before). You can use either PC for this. Select "Delete" to securely wipe your data from the device. This prepares it for return to Fragile/NZXT. (Note: Fragile performs an additional full wipe upon return for enhanced security.)
- Delete from Old PC: Before returning the old PC, make sure to erase all your data from it as well.
