Replacing your Smart Device V2

This article will cover how to replace the Smart Device V2 in your NZXT case.  For this guide, you will need the following:

  • A Phillips #1 Screw Driver
  • A compatible NZXT i-Series or Elite series case:
    • H510i or H510 Elite
    • H710i
    • H210i
  • Smart Device V2 Replacement

For steps on removing the Smart Device from your case, please click your case version to expand the guide below:

H510 & H210

Step 1 - Preparing the Case

To start, loosen the three screws holding the side panels onto the case as highlighted below:

Checkpoint - The three screws are captive screws and will fall limp once loosened.  These screws should not be removed entirely.

Once the screws are loosened, remove the metal side panel by angling it away at the rear of the case, followed by the glass panel by pulling the panel from the top of the case.  Set both panels on a safe surface to prevent any damage.

Step 2 - Removing the Smart Device V2

The Smart Device V2 will be located in the top-left corner behind where the metal side panel was previous installed.  Disconnect the following connections from the Smart Device V2:

  • Any fans connected to the FAN 1-3 Headers
  • Any RGB devices connected to the LED 1 and 2 Headers
  • The Internal USB 2.0 Connection at the Motherboard
  • The SATA Power Connection at the Power Supply cable

From here, remove the two tabbed screws shown in the image below:

Once the screws are removed, the device will easily come out of the case.

Step 1 - Preparing the Case

To start, loosen the locking screw holding the glass panel to the case as highlighted below: H710-Glass-Screw.jpg To remove the glass panel, use the metal pull tab to pull the glass panel away from the top of the case and lift away.  H710-Open-Screw.png To access the cables, press the panel release button located at the rear of the case to unlock the panel. H710-Panel-Release-Button.png Lastly, remove the Cable Bar by undoing the three screws at the following locations:

Step 2 - Removing the Smart Device V2

The Smart Device V2 will be located in the top-right corner behind where the cable bar was previously installed.  Disconnect the following connections from the Smart Device V2:

  • Any fans connected to the FAN 1-3 Headers
  • Any RGB devices connected to the LED 1 and 2 Headers
  • The Internal USB 2.0 Connection at the Motherboard
  • The SATA Power Connection at the Power Supply cable

From here, remove the two tabbed screws shown in the image below:

Once the screws are removed, the device will easily come out of the case.

Installing the Replacement Smart Device V2

Once the Smart Device V2 has been removed from the case, repeat the process above in reverse by screwing the two tabbed screws into the case with the label facing metal panel of the case.

Checkpoint - The vented side of the Smart Device should be facing the inside chamber of your case towards the back of the cable bar.

Reconnect any devices previously connected to the Smart Device V2, as well as the USB 2.0 Internal connection and SATA power connection.  For more information, please see the wiring diagram below:
