Preparing the Case
To replace the Front I/O Module, you will need to remove the following panels from the case:
- Top Panel
- Front Mesh Panel
- Front Tempered Glass Panel
- Side Tempered Glass Panel
- Side Metal Panel
In addition to these panels, you will also need to remove the Fan Bracket, Removable Floor Cover, and Dust Filter. The Dust Filter can be removed through the slot at the bottom of the case.
To remove the panels, start by loosening the locking screws (1). These are captive screws and will stay with the panels once removed. Once the screws are unlocked, you can remove the panels by doing the following:
- Side Tempered Glass & Side Metal Panels - Using the tab with the locking screw, pull the panel from the top away from the case to release the ball joints. Once released, lift the panel out of the slot at the bottom.
- Top Panel - Slide the panel towards the rear of the case, then lift the panel.
With the panels removed, it's recommended to remove the Front Mesh Panel and the Fan Bracket. Use your Phillips #1 to remove the locking screw at the top of the panel. With the screw removed, lift the panel up and away from the case.
Please note: this is not a captive screw so it is recommended to place it in either a parts tray or to re-secure the screw after removing the panel.
With the metal side panel removed, loosen the two captive screws at the top of the fan bracket and then angle the bracket away from the case until you can lift it up. Do not forcefully pull the fans, as their wires may still be connected in the case. Set the bracket aside near the case.
Finally we can remove the Front Glass Panel. To do this, start by removing the inside screw shown in the image below. With the inner screw removed, remove the four screws at the top of the panel. With all of the screws removed, angle the panel away from the top of the case and lift it from the slot below.
Please note: these are not captive screws so it is recommended to place them in a parts tray or organizer. All of these screws match and can be marked as short screws.
With the panels removed, remove the Removable Floor Cover by lifting it from the exposed hole. It is then recommended to re-attach the fan bracket at this step and secure it with one (1) of the captive screws temporarily.
Removing the Lower Bezel
To access the Front I/O Module, you will need to remove the lower bezel from the case. This bezel is secured to the case with 14 screws total:
- 12 short screws (same size as those holding the front glass panel)
- 2 long screws
All of these screws can be removed using your Phillips #1 screwdriver. It is highly recommended to have a magnetic parts tray or organizer during this step. Starting with the underside of the case, remove the six (6) small screws highlighted below:
Left-side (Tempered Glass) edge.
Front edge
Move to the rear of the case and remove the two (2) short screws located in the bottom-right corner.
Next remove the four (4) small screws found in the inner-edges where the glass was secured. There will be two (2) located in the edge below the small glass panel and two (2) located in the edge below the large glass panel.
Large panel edge, left.
Large panel edge, right
Small panel edge
Remove the two long screws holding the plastic bumper clips in place at the center of the large panel edge, then remove the two plastic bumper clips from the edge of the case. Note: when reinstalling the clips later, be sure that the tall side of the bumpers are towards the inside of the case as shown below:
With the screws removed, pull the bezel from the rear of the case and remove the bezel.
Removing the I/O Module
With the lower bezel removed, you can now access the I/O Module. To release the module, start by cutting the two cable ties holding the I/O cables to the inside of the case shown below:
With the cable ties cut, remove the four (4) screws from the face of the front I/O module and pull the module out through the front of the case.
To install the replacement Front I/O Module, follow these instructions in reverse order.
