The T120 series of CPU Coolers are designed as a standalone cooler that does not require the use of the NZXT CAM software. Instead, we generally recommend allowing your motherboard to automatically control the fan speed in response to CPU heat by connecting the 4-pin PWM Fan connector directly to the CPU_FAN header.
If you have the T120 RGB version, there are two options to control the RGB lighting based on your system.
RGB connected to Motherboard (5V ARGB)
If your motherboard supports 3-pin 5V Addressable RGB (ARGB) and you do not want to use the NZXT CAM software, this is the recommended install option.
Connect the included 5V ARGB (Female) to NZXT RGB (Male) Adapter to the RGB connection for the included F120 RGB fan, then connect the 3-pin end to an open 5V ARGB header on your motherboard. This header name may vary depending on your motherboard manufacturer, please refer to the motherboard user's manual for more information.
Once connected, start your PC and open the motherboard's RGB software to control the included fan as a standard ARGB device.
Note: Some motherboards may require that the number of LEDs be set for proper detection. The number of LEDs on the included F120 RGB fan is 18.
Fan connected to an NZXT Controller
If your motherboard does not support 5V ARGB or if you wish to control the fan RGB via NZXT CAM, you will need to connect the included F120 RGB Fan to a compatible NZXT RGB Controller. This includes any controller with a 4-pin NZXT RGB connector released since 2019.
Example Compatible RGB Controllers
| Controller Name | # of 4-pin Connectors |
| Smart Device V2 | 3 |
| RGB & Fan Controller (2019) | 3 |
| RGB & Fan Controller (2022) | 6 |
| Control Hub | 1 |
| RGB Controller* | 3 |
| NZXT Motherboards | Varies, refer to Spec Sheet or User's Manual |
* RGB Controller is only included with select RGB products, such as fan multi-packs, Kraken series coolers, and select Elite-tier cases.
Connect the 4-pin NZXT RGB cable directly to a compatible 4-pin NZXT RGB header, then start your PC and open the CAM software. The F140 RGB fan will automatically detect in the Lighting section.
