H6 Flow |
This article will detail replacing the Front I/O Module in the H6 Flow series of cases. For this replacement, you will need the following:
- A Replacement Front I/O Module (aka USB Module)
- Phillips #0 Screwdriver (PH0)
- Phillips #1 Screwdriver (PH1)
- A thin flathead screwdriver or safety razor
- Flush Cutters or Scissors
Preparing the Case
To replace the Front I/O module, there are a few preparation steps that are necessary:
- Case Panel Removal
- Case Fan Removal
- Accent Panel Removal
- Case Foot Removal
Removing the Case Panels
Thanks to the mostly tool-less design of the H6, removal of the case panels is incredibly straight forward. Before starting you will need to loosen the two locking thumbscrews holding on the large glass side panel and metal side panel.
The thumbscrews locking the side panels are captive screws and will remain with the case when loosened.
With the locking thumbscrews loosened you can remove the top panel by pulling up from the rear of the case, followed by removing the remaining side panels (excluding the small front glass panel) by pulling the panel at the top away from the case as shown below.
To remove the small front glass panel, use your Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the locking screws holding the panel in place then slide the panel up and away from the case. This will be three (3) along the top of the panel, one at the outer edge of the top, and one inside the case at the bottom of the panel as shown below:
Removing the Case Fans
To replace the Front I/O module, we will need to make sure two fans are removed from the case:
- The bottom fan at the front of the case (installed by default).
- The fan closest to the front at the bottom of the case (not included with the case).
The bottom fan at the front will be held in place with four (4) self-tapping screws. It is recommended to remove these using your Phillips #1 screwdriver to prevent stripping the screw head.
If you added a 140 mm fan to the bottom of the case, this should be held in by four (4) self-tapping CB5 screws. It is recommended to remove these using your Phillips #1 screwdriver like with the front fan to prevent stripping the screw head.
Removing the Accent Panel
After removing the front fan, you'll need to remove the accent panel in order to access the Front I/O module during the removal step. To remove the accent panel, remove the screw located below the front fan slot.
With the screw removed, the panel will freely slide out and can be removed.
Removing the Case Foot
The last step is to remove the case foot, which covers one of the two Front I/O Module screws. Using your thin flathead screwdriver or a safety razor, lift the rubber foot and then slowly peel the foot off of the case.
The foot may leave behind some adhesive residue after removal.
With the rubber foot removed, use your Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove the screw from the center of the foot stand and remove the foot stand from the case.
Removing the Front I/O Module
Before removing the Front I/O Module, cut the zip-tie holding the Front I/O cables to the case.
The arrow above points to the location of the zip-tie, do not cut the metal of the case.
To remove the front I/O module use your Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the two screws (A) and then press the two retaining pegs (B) to release the module.
With the module released, use the cables to pull the module away from the front of the case and out of the cutout previously covered by the Accent Panel.
To install the new Front I/O module, follow these instructions in reverse order.
