Nobody likes a grimy mouse surface, whether it be due to the severe performance hit to gliding and tracking or just the unattractive appearance of an unkempt desk. This guide will cover how to properly care for your NZXT mousepad to ensure a smooth gliding experience and long lifespan of the pad itself.
General Care
It is generally not recommended to eat or leave drinks on or near your mousepad, as moisture or debris from food and drink can damage the surface of your pad. If you do spill a liquid or food on the surface of the pad, it is recommended to dry or clean the pad immediately to prevent staining.
How to Clean a Spill
Using an absorbent lint-free cloth or paper towel, lightly dab the area of the spill to absorb any liquids on the surface of the mousepad. Do not wipe or scrub the surface, as this can cause the liquid to be pushed into the mousepad and stain.
How often should I clean my Mousepad?
It is recommended to wipe your mousepad surface using the routine cleaning instructions on this page once every 1-2 weeks. If you have spilled food or drink on your pad it is recommended to clean the mousepad immediately.
Preparing the Mousepad for Cleaning
Before starting, it's best to remove any loose dirt and debris from the pad itself. This can be done either using a small handheld vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment, or by hanging mousepad vertically and gentling patting or shaking the pad to dislodge any debris.
Cleaning the Mousepad Surface
For cleaning the surface of your Mousepad, you will need the following materials:
- A soft, lint-free cleaning cloth (i.e. microfiber cloth or towel)
- Distilled Water
- A mild detergent (i.e. mild dish soap)
- A drying rack or pole
For routine cleaning, dampen your cleaning cloth with distilled water. The surface should be damp but not saturated (no dripping). Wipe the surface of the mousepad in wide strokes from left to right. Do not scrub the surface when cleaning the pad, as this can damage the surface treatment and/or adhesive layer.
How do I remove stains or dirt from my Mousepad?
For stubborn stains or dirt, apply a small amount of mild detergent to your damp cloth. Lightly lather the cloth and then gently rub the affected areas of the mousepad in small, circular motions. Avoid harshly scrubbing the surface as this can damage the surface treatment and/or adhesive layer.
If you used a detergent to clean your mousepad, rinse the pad with distilled water to remove any soap residue.
Drying the Mousepad
Hang the mousepad from a drying rack or vertically over a pole. It is not recommended to use clips to hold the mousepad as this can damage the edge of the pad. Avoid direct sunlight or heat, as this can damage or warp the pad.
Do not machine dry the mousepad, this can result in damage to the surface layer or adhesive layer and cause the surface to delaminate.
What should I avoid when cleaning my mousepad?
When cleaning your mousepad, only use distilled water and a mild detergent. Avoid using harsh cleaners such as bleach, ammonia, abrasive scrubbing pads, or adhesive rollers (i.e. lint rollers) as these can damage the surface treatment of your mousepad.
Do not use stickers or other adhesives on the surface of the mousepad, as this will damage the surface treatment.
