Overclocking with the N7 B550

Please keep in mind, this article is not intended as a guide on what clock rates and voltages are needed in order to overclock your CPU. The sole purpose of this article is to show where you can go to adjust these settings. If you need help with selecting a clock rate, voltage, or any additional settings for stability, we recommend contacting users experienced with overclocking. How do I set my clock rate?

To perform any overclock, firstly you would need to get into the N7 B550 BIOS, as that is where you can adjust the settings relevant to this. To enter your BIOS, you will need to continuously press the Delete or F2 keys when the NZXT splash screen is visible.

Once you are in the BIOS, click on the Overclocking tab along the top of the screen. Under this tab, you will see multiple options in regards to overclocking your Processor and RAM XMP.

Your CPU Frequency and Voltage is changeable under "CPU Frequency and Voltage(VID) Change". To make a change, click on this section and change it from "Auto" to "Manual. This will expand the menu under this section as shown below.

Under "Frequency" you will see a four-digit number, this is the clock rate of your CPU in MHz. If you are more familiar with CPU frequency being shown in GHz, remember that GHz is essentially the first two digits of MHz in the thousands. 3600 MHz would equal 3.6 GHz. If you wanted a clock rate of 4.0 GHz, then you would set the Frequency to 4000 MHz. Do not enter any overclock value before consulting a professional. This may cause damage to your hardware and void your CPU's warranty.

How do I set my voltage?

After you set your clock rate, your CPU need's an appropriate amount of voltage to allow your processor to function. While under the same section the Voltage is listed. If let's say your application called for 1.35 in voltage it would be as simple as typing that into the field to the right of "Voltage(VID)". Do not enter any voltage value before consulting a professional. This may cause damage to your hardware and void your CPU's warranty.

Additional Tools

The B550 Chipset from AMD also includes some additional tools that can aid you in overclocking your system. These additional tools can be found under the "Advanced" tab under "AMD Overclocking".

You will be greeted with a prompt on the screen about the dangers of overclocking your processor. Please make sure to read this and only press Accept if you agree to the terms per AMD.

If you approved the prompt you will see three sections available to you. "ECO Mode", "Precision Boost Overdrive", and "LN2 Mode" as shown below.

Keep in mind that any overclocking will likely cause more heat to be produced by the processor. It's always recommended to make sure your cooling solution is sufficient enough to cool your overclocked CPU. It is recommended that research is done in order to determine how to safely overclock your processor and cool it once again.
