| Limited Support Article |
This guide only applies to the following NZXT motherboard models:
Newer chipsets such as B650E and Z690 do not support Legacy OS mode. |
While most NZXT motherboards are designed with UEFI-based operating systems in mind, some models may include options for supporting older BIOS-based operating systems. These can include some Linux distributions or legacy installs carried over from Windows 7 or older.
To enable legacy support, you will need to enable the Compatibility Support Module (CSM) setting and set the system to Legacy Only mode.
| Linux & Legacy Windows Driver Support |
| NZXT does not provide dedicated drivers for Linux or legacy versions of Windows (i.e. Windows 7, Windows XP). Hardware support for older operating systems may be extremely limited. |
Limitations of Compatibility Support Module (CSM)
While enabling Compatibility Support Module (CSM) and Legacy Only mode will allow improved compatibility with BIOS-based operating systems, you will not be able to utilize UEFI-based operating systems or extended features such as Trusted Platform Module (TPM) related features such as Secure Boot (required for Windows 11).
Additionally, you may experience longer than normal boot times while CSM is enabled.
Enabling CSM & Legacy Only
- While starting the PC, press the Delete or F2 key to open the UEFI/BIOS
- Intel Only - Change the UEFI mode to Advanced Mode by clicking the button in the top-right corner
- Open the Boot tab, then select the 📁Compatibility Support Module (CSM) option
- In the Compatibility Support Module (CSM) settings, set CSM to Enabled.
Enabling CSM will expose additional settings in the Compatibility Support Module settings.
- Launch PXE OpROM Policy (Network Boot)
- Launch Storage OpROM Policy (SATA & NVMe)
- Other PCI Device ROM Priority (non-NVMe PCI devices)
These settings can be set to UEFI Only, Legacy Only, or Do not Load. For legacy Operating Systems, we recommend setting Storage OpROM Policy to Legacy Only.
