| Kraken Detection Issues |
|
If your Kraken Z series cooler is not detected by the CAM software, please check the following guide before continuing: |
If the Kraken cooler shows up in the CAM software but is not giving a display, this could be an indicator of a hardware related issue such as a dead backlight. To test this, start by making sure the Brightness slider in the CAM software is set to the highest position as shown below for the Kraken, as well as the master brightness in the top-right corner:
With the brightness sliders adjusted, use a bright light source such as a Flashlight angled towards the screen. If you see a faint image of what should be on the display (i.e. CPU temperature), this is an indicator that the backlight is not properly powered. This can be resolved by doing the following:
- Shutdown the PC and turn off the Power Supply
- Check the Breakout Cable connection at the Kraken's pump cap (see the section below)
- Check the SATA Power connection at the Power Supply
- Check the Internal USB 2.0 connection at the Pump Cap and Motherboard
- Restart the PC.
If the issue persists after checking all of the internal connections, this means that the screen has a hardware related issue that is going to require a replacement under warranty. For assistance with warranty claims, please reach out to our Customer Support team.
| Kraken Z Warranty Claims |
| All NZXT Kraken Z series coolers carry a 6-year limited warranty with valid proof of purchase from an authorized retailer. |
My Kraken Z's display is blank
If the Kraken Z cooler does not show up in the CAM software and the screen is blank, this may point to an issue with the Kraken not being properly connected or a loose connection.
The Breakout Cable is keyed to prevent the cable from being improperly inserted, however the shallow key can result in users being able to connect the cable upside-down with sufficient force. To find the correct orientation, locate the empty pin on the breakout cable and align it with the face of the pump cap.
The empty pin on the Kraken Z Breakout Cable should be closest to the face of the Kraken Z cooler.
To properly connect the Breakout Cable, align the cable with the empty pin towards the face of the pump cap and away from the cold plate. The cable should be fully inserted into the slot, as a loos connection can result in detection issues.
If the issue persists after checking all of the internal connections, this means that the screen has a hardware related issue that is going to require a replacement under warranty. For assistance with warranty claims, please reach out to our Customer Support team.
The display on the Kraken Z works, but the CPU is overheating.
If the screen is properly displaying but your system is slowing down or shutting down due to overheating, this could indicate a potential issue with the Pump. Before starting, make sure that the Pump RPM is reporting properly in the CAM software. At 100% load, the Kraken should report a measurement of 3000 RPM ± 10% (300RPM), meaning a range of 2700 to 3300 RPM on average.
If the pump shows a reading of 0 RPM or an exceedingly low reading (i.e. ~1500 RPM despite being set to 100%), this could indicate a physical issue with the Kraken pump that will require replacement. To troubleshoot this issue, we would recommend the following:
- Close the CAM software and any other Cooling control software you may be running.
- Re-launch the CAM software
- Try adjusting the Pump Speed manually:
- To raise pump speed, move the left-most point on the curve up
- To raise the pump speed, move the right-most point on the curve down
- Shutdown the PC and check the Power connections from the Kraken
If the issue persists after checking all of the internal connections, this means that the pump has a hardware related issue that is going to require a replacement under warranty. For assistance with warranty claims, please reach out to our Customer Support team.
