The Cooling Chambers:
We will now continue the CPU cooler installation. If you have air cooler (Marked F), skip to Level 9B. If you have an AIO cooler (Marked E), skip Level 9B.
Video Walkthrough
Intel® CPU
A. Unscrew the Thumb-nuts
Important! Skip to Step E if you have an AMD® CPU.
To resume installing the AIO cooler, remove the thumb-nuts that you installed earlier onto the spacers around your CPU. Place them in a safe location for when we reinstall them on step D.
B. Remove Plastic Covering
Remove the plastic water block covering. Gray thermal paste has been pre-applied to the bottom of the unit, so take care to avoid smearing or touching it.
C. Place the Water Block
Place the water block onto the CPU with the pump tubes oriented on the right side of the water block.
D. Secure the Water Block
Secure the water block with thumb-nuts. Tighten the thumb-nuts with springs in an X pattern so that
the pressure on the CPU is evenly distributed.
AMD® CPU
E. Identify the Parts That Will be Used
Important! Skip to Step P if you have an Intel® CPU.
Not all of the Kraken 120 components will be used for your build. For this upcoming section, you will be using the AMD bracket, two thumb-nuts and two hook screws.
F. Prepare the Backplate
Take the hook screws (which look like a small chair), and put them through the AMD bracket holes matching the orientation above. Then, screw on the thumb-nuts with springs.
G. Allow for Wobble
Keep the thumb-nuts loose. If they’re screwed tightly, loosen them slightly now. We will be tightening them at a later step.
H. Remove Plastic Covering
Remove the plastic water block covering. Gray thermal paste has been pre-applied to the bottom of the unit, so take care to avoid smearing or touching it.
I. Loosen the Intel® Retention Bracket
Slightly push the two feet at the open end of the Intel® retention bracket outwards.
J. Remove the Intel® Retention Bracket
Pull the Intel® retention bracket off of the water block.
K. Attach the AMD® Retention Bracket
Follow the pictured orientation to slide the AMD® retention bracket onto the water block.
L. Ensure the Bracket is Properly Secured
The AMD® retention bracket should be securely attached to the water block now.
M. Place the Water Block
Place the water block onto the CPU with the pump tubes oriented on the right side of the water block.
N. Hook on the Hook Screws
Hook the hook screws onto the AMD bracket. Try hooking them onto the bracket one at a time. If you find this difficult to do, try loosening the thumb-nuts a little.
O. Screw on the Thumb-nuts
Secure the water block to the board by tightening the thumb-nuts.
P. Identify the Radiator & Fan Cables
There should be two cables coming from the radiator and top fan, exiting out the back of the case.
Q. Route the Wires
Route both of these cables through the top channel and out the top case opening.
R. Connect the Power Cable Set
This cable will be found attached to the radiator
Identify the thinner of the two cables coming from the radiator. Connect the 3-pin pump power cable to the 4-pin CPU_OPT, PUMP or AIO_PUMP connectors on the motherboard.
Can’t Find a Port? Referring to the motherboard manual should help a lot.
*Location of ports may vary by board.
S. Connect the Fan Cables
This cable will be found attached to the top bracket fan.
Identify the thicker of the two cables coming from the fan. Connect the 4-pin power cable of the fan to the 4-pin CPU_FAN connector on the motherboard.
*Location of ports may vary by board.
T. Identify the Correct Connector
Two separate cables come with the cooler. We will be using the 5V (Female) to RGB (Male) Adapter depicted on the left, distinguishable by the 3 circular holes on one of the ends. We will not be using the cable with the 3 protruding pins.
U. Plug in the Connector
Plug the RGB cable female end (with four square holes) coming directly off of the water block into the male side (with four pins) of the separate adapter cable. Align the holes with the four pins on the adapter cable.
V. Route AIO Cables
One cable will be unused. Route it as well and hide it away.
Route this connector cable through the opening above the motherboard. This will help you with cable management and visual clutter in your finished build.
W. Cable Management - AIO Cable
Route the cable from the top, through the middle cable channel, and out of the middle opening.
X. Connect the 5V AIO Cable
Do NOT forcefully plug into a 12V port.
Plug into an available 5V ARGB port, which has 3 pins, and is labeled with “5V”. Align the 3 holes of the cable with the 3 pins on the motherboard.
*Location of ports may vary by board.
